Abstract
Based on the classical Rice model of crack tip dislocation emission, the present article provides a theoretical prediction of suitable grain orientations (texture components) in a rolled polycrystalline BCC Fe plate which can improve the overall resistance to cleavage crack propagation. Besides, the beneficial effect of alloying additions on further improvement in the intrinsic crack resistance of the steel is also discussed pertaining to the role of unstable stacking fault energy.
