Abstract

Being different from the laser diode-pumped laser, the solar-pumped laser could not be analyzed directly by the model of the laser diode-pumped laser. A model about side-pumped four-level Nd3+:YAG solar laser is proposed, where the solar spectrum as well as Nd3+:YAG absorption spectrum is taken into account. The model is verified by the comparison between the calculated and experimental result. Then based on the proposed model, the effect of the beam waist radius, the rod radius, and the transmission of the output coupler on the output laser power is demonstrated, respectively. It is clear that, in order to obtain the maximum output laser power, we should optimize these parameters. Finally, for the given Nd3+:YAG rod, the simultaneous optimization about the beam waist radius and the transmission of the output coupler to maximize the output power is performed. The work may be of help for the choosing of the optimum value of the experimental parameters.
