Abstract

Hydrodynamical models for SN 1987A are calculated starting from the new presupernova model of the 6 M⊙ helium core with the envelope of mass Menv . The photospheric velocity vph, and the light curve in the theoretical models depend on the explosion energy E, Menv, and the mass of 56Ni. Models and observations are in reasonable agreement for Menv > 3 M⊙, E ~ 1.0 − 1.5 × 1051 erg, and MNi ~ 0.07 M⊙. The best fit among the calculated models is obtained for Menv = 6.7 M⊙ and E = 1.0 × 1051 erg. Mixing of 56Ni in the core and moderate helium enrichment in the envelope are suggested from the light curve and vph.
