Abstract

This paper aims to explain the size dependence of piezoelectric coefficient d33(D) of PbTiO3 nanoparticles. For this purpose, a theoretical model was created for the size-dependent piezoelectric coefficient, considering the Curie temperature for small ferroelectrics. The research reveals that d33(D) increased with the decline in the particle size D. The model prediction agrees well with the experimental results on the piezoelectric coefficient of PbTiO3 nanoparticles. In addition, the size effect of the dielectric susceptibility coefficient η33(D) was also predicted under the condition of η33(D)∝d33(D). Our prediction of η33 (D) function was consistent with other theoretical evidences.
