Abstract

One electric field measurement method without intrusiveness is the Kerr electro-optic method. This method can be widely applied to gas, liquid and solid materials, which have transparency the an electrically birefringent property. However this method is not adequately developed as yet for practical measurement, that is, for nonuniform three-dimensional electric fields. In this paper, one of the principles of a measurement method for a three-dimensional electric field at an arbitrary position is described considering the effect of the observing (laser beam) direction on the apparent electric field and assuming the localized AC electric field using the Kerr electro-optic effect with AC modulation. >
