Abstract

Charge exchange spectra for the 48Ca(n, p) and 48Ca(p, n) reactions at 200 MeV are calculated over the excitation energy range 0⩽ E x ⩽60 MeV in an effort to assess the degree of accuracy with which the Ikeda sum role for Gamow-Teller transitions can be tested by subtracting zero degree (n, p) from zero degree (p, n) spectra. It is shown that the 48Ca(n, p) and 48Ca(n, p) reactions provide an ideal case for such a test.
