Abstract
A theoretical framework of an extended three-body-force shell model (ETSM) has been presented by incorporating correctly the effect of three-body and second-neighbour interactions in the shell model. The influence of three-body forces on the dielectric behaviour of solids has been thoroughly discussed. In general, ETSM is expected to describe satisfactorily the dynamics of the rocksalt structure lattices.
