Abstract

The possibility of preparing glasses in sulfate, phosphate, and sulfate-phosphate systems is estimated from nine criteria of glass formation. It is shown that if these criteria concern only the first coordination sphere (i.e., the formation of PO4 and SO4 groups), glass formation in the systems should be considered possible. The majority of the criteria of glass formation have a defect consisting of the fact that their use is necessary but not sufficient for predicting the possibility of preparing glasses in a wide class of systems.
