Abstract

Wet removal coefficients are derived for rain and snow. The parameterizations are intended for regional or mesoscale models and are meant to apply for soluble particles that are incorporated into the cloud liquid water via nucleation. The wet removal coefficients are shown to be a function of precipitation rate which, in turn, is a function of altitude. This altitude dependency is determined from a series of transendental equations and is related to height of the freezing level and form of precipitation at the ground (i.e. rain vs snow).
