Abstract
AbstractPolymerization of several vinyl and heterocyclic monomers was described recently as proceeding by covalent propagation. In this paper the theoretical basis of purely covalent multcenter propagation is discussed in terms of the orbital symmetry theory and the parity rules. A mechanism is considered in which ionic and covalent species are present simultaneously. Covalent species may react with monomers, forming intermediate ions. The kinetic sense of the rate of this elementary reaction is described.
