Abstract

Laminar forced convection heat transfer in an annulus partially filled with copper foam is enhanced using electrohydrodynamics (EHD) technique. A mathematical model for simulation of EHD conduction mechanism in an electrically conductive porous zone is developed. The flow patterns of the induced flow and electroconvection heat transfer are investigated using numerical simulation. An experimental setup is constructed to investigate heat transfer enhancement in the double pipe with metal foams attached to the inner pipe. The insertion of metal foam results in an effectiveness of 4.2 and the applied voltage of 24 kV increased the effectiveness parameter to 5.1.
