Abstract

An analytic calculation of the initial complex permeability frequency spectra of thin soft ferromagnetic films with in-plane anisotropy, using Landau-Lifshitz theory, is presented. The influence of the thin films' intrinsic parameters, such as saturation magnetization and anisotropy field, on spectra is discussed. A broad band method is applied to determine the permeability spectra of Co-Zr and Co-Zr-Re thin films, in the 0.3 MHz to 3 GHz frequency range. Theoretical and experimental results are compared. The influences of the anisotropy field and the anisotropy dispersion are analysed.
