Abstract

A conceptually simple, but general theory is proposed to explain the behaviour of aY-connected squirrel cage induction machine operating in steady state. Means for accounting for slot openings and saturation are discussed. The analysis provides an insight into how harmonics due to both magnetomotive force distribution and saturation contribute to losses. An expression for torque is derived, together with an algorithm for solution. Finally, results obtained are compared with those found on an actual machine.
