Abstract

In this paper we propose a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) optical switch based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) for all-optical 2R regeneration. Detailed investigations are presented on the characteristics of switching window of this device. Numerical simulation and experimental demonstration indicate the width of the optical pulse and the time delay between the input optical signals are essential parameters for a good performance of the device.
