Abstract

Abstract After surveying four theologies of mission articulated in the twentieth century, this chapter suggests that three theologies of mission, rooted in the missiological and theological breakthroughs of the previous century, have emerged in the twenty-first century and will set the agenda for decades to come. These theologies are (1) Mission as Prophetic Dialogue, (2) Mission as Transforming/Missionary Discipleship, and (3) Mission as Attraction. The author sees these three theologies of mission as taking mission on a new path, shaping the spirit and practice of mission for the future, and enabling the church to commit itself first and foremost to be a credible witness in the world.
