Abstract

SUMMARY Data gathered as part of a grounded theory study of pastoral counselor practices suggests an interactive relationship between pastoral counselor formation, models of theological reflection, and psychotherapeutic theory. Four models of theological reflection are identified and described, drawn from coded counselor interviews and pastoral statements. Analysis and conclusions offer a preliminary model illustrating how specific values and philosophical commitments active in pastoral counselor training shape interactions between formation, model of reflection, and psychotherapeutic theory
