Abstract

Abstract Theodotus (third to second century BCE ) is named by Eusebius of Caesarea as the author of a single poem about the rape of Dinah at Shechem (Gen 34), that provides a fine early example of a Hellenized tradition of biblical interpretation. Eight fragments have been preserved by Eusebius, Praeparatio Evangelica (9.22.1–11), quoting as his source Alexander Polyhistor (ca. 105–35 BCE ).
