Abstract

The Author considers the section of Zur Lehre von der Geschichte und von der Freiheit (joined then to Negative Dialektik ) where Adorno refuses Kantian’s thesis that liberty is following a rule of reason. The Kantian thesis is developed by idealist theorists who identify liberty and duty while Adorno’s point is that reason becomes pratical one only if it recovers that somatic impulse that the reflection process has at first rejected. This analysis should improve our understanding of Adorno’s vision of liberty.
