Abstract

The author presents a critical survey of the literature, both in terms of field reports and theoretical constructs, which is relevant to African Traditional Religion in the areas of belief in divinity and the nature of divinity (one or many?), the significance of ancestors, and witchcraft and sorcery. Both the great variety of particular beliefs and certain underlying regularities are highlighted.
