Abstract

Abstract Æthelwold, bishop of Winchester, was a leader of the tenth‐century Benedictine Reform and an author of works in both English and Latin. He founded a school at Winchester that produced several famous authors of the late Anglo‐Saxon period including Ælfric of Eynsham and Wulfstan Cantor. Winchester under his tenure was also a major site for musical and artistic innovation.
