Abstract
Finite-lattice techniques are employed to study the Z 2 gauge model on a lattice in (2 + 1) dimensions. The string tension critical index is estimated to be μ/ v = 1.95 ± 0.1. Outside the axial string sector, it is found that the finite-lattice results agree with the analytic continuations of strong-coupling series.
