Abstract

The inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) include genes with pathogenic variants that predispose not only to infections (immunodeficiencies) but also immune dysregulation (autoimmunity, lymphoproliferation, susceptibility to malignancies). The yin and yang, in the context of IEIs, refers to these seemingly opposing entities of infection susceptibility and immune dysregulation. Over the past decade or so, the availability and accessibility to complex diagnostic tools in immunology has increased exponentially with advanced immunophenotyping, functional assays and genomic analysis.
