Abstract

holesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) is a 79-kDaglycoprotein, present in humans, rabbits, primates, andhamsters but absent in rodents, dogs, horses, cows, and pigs, that facilitates transfer of cholesteryl ester from high-densitylipoprotein (HDL) particles to low-density lipoprotein(LDL)–very-low-density lipoprotein (vLDL) particles in ex-change for triglycerides, thereby participating in reversecholesterol transport and regulating circulating HDL choles-terol (HDL-C) levels.
