Abstract

The City of Chicago is on the verge of implementing two mojor contraflow bus lanes on existing CBD major Normally, this type of exclusive preferential bus treatment has been restricted to rush-hour highway use. However, studies have shown its applicability in arterial one-way street utilization. Exclusivity is treated in terms of reverse-flow; pros and cons of physical separation; transitway mall implementation; and physical and social concessions requested for such a system.
