Abstract

Abstract This book is structured around the view that large-scale Urban Development Projects (UDPs) are the embodiment of processes that operate in and over a variety of scales, from the local to the global. These urban interventions are as it were ‘grains of sand’, albeit of a particularly rough-edged variety, that hold the world’s complex socio-spatial and political-economic configuration in their crystalline structure. They are part of a process of profound restructuring that over the past few decades has transformed the urban landscape in unexpected, perplexing, and often disturbing ways.
