Abstract

This meeting was the third World Congress on Orthopaedic Sports Trauma. The meetings are held in the country of the Olympics during the Olympic year. Previous meetings have taken place in Majorca, Spain in 1992 prior to the Barcelona Olympics and in Orlando, USA in 1996 prior to the Atlanta Olympics. This meeting was also the Asia Pacific biennial sports trauma meeting, the fifth meeting of the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine section of the Western Pacific OrŽ . thopaedic Association OSM-WPOA and the second meeting of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Society for Ž . Sports Medicine APOSSM . The venue was the Conrad Jupiters Hotel on the Gold Coast in Queensland, approximately a one-hour drive south of Brisbane. This is the largest hotel convention centre in Australia. There were approximately 400 delegates from 31 countries. There was a large international faculty, with 33 representatives from Europe, 31 from Australia, 20 from Asia, 15 from North America, 5 from New Zealand, 3 from the Middle East and 1 each from South America and South Africa. Over 400 papers were submitted. The programme book extended to 360 pages and it is difficult to give a concise summary of such an extensive meeting; however, certain trends emerged.
