Abstract

Abstract The article describes the material in the Montana Works Progress (WPA) Collection at Montana State University. Most of the records were generated by the Federal Writers Project, and span the years 1935-1942. The collection is diverse, covering Western pioneer histories, as well as Indian histories, legends, and customs. Sketches and photographs accompany the materials. After describing the collection, the author explains the varied use of it by historians, novelists, ethnologists, and naturalists.
