Abstract

THE American Museum, of Natural History lays itself out largely for the education of the people, and this aim is emphasised in the title of Prof. H. F. Osborn's introductory article, “The American Museum and Citizenship,” in the fifty-fourth annual report. That is an aspect of the museum with which we have dealt in previous articles, and we would here direct attention to the large amount of scientific research carried out by the same museum. The greater and more important part of the activities of every large natural history museum is connected with the advancement of science, but not all make so prominent a feature of it as is made in the present report.
