Abstract

Recently, Wang et al. (1996) have developed three different equations of state (EOS) based on the hard-sphere model which, through a rescaling factor in the definition of the dimensionless density, yield the correct close-packed density in the limit of infinite pressure. We derive the expressions for the residual Helmholtz free energy for these three EOS in order to investigate their thermodynamic consistency at infinite pressure, and thus examine the applicability of the Wong-Sandler mixing rules.
