International Review of MissionVolume 83, Issue 328 p. 167-171 THE WITNESS OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCHES IN SOUTH AFRICA Jean-François Bill, Jean-François Bill Jean-François Bill was born of Swiss missionary parents in the Northern Transvaal where he grew up. After graduating in Theology at Rhodes University he was ordained to the ministry in the then Tsonga Presbyterian Church (EPCSA). He served various parishes before teaching at the Federal Theological Seminary. He then served the South African Council of Churches in two capacities: first as director of Theological Education, and later as general administrative secretary. He was elected moderator of the EPCSA in 1980 and served as such until 1987. He spent forty weeks in detention during the State of Emergency.
