Abstract

Fashions are self-fulfilling prophecies, and arise through a process of agreement among fashion-makers responding to common situational cues. Consumer behavior is only one of these cues. This view of the fashion process is illustrated by the wide C-post, which has become a dominant fashion in automobile styling during the past ten years.
