Abstract

We construct the Wick-ordered exponential of the dipole field, an infrared singular field. We show that the field operator is an object much more singular than its own vacuum expectation values. The actual construction involves the spaces of type 𝒮 by Gelfand and Shilov and seems to provide the most general distributional scheme for the choice of test function in (gauge) quantum field theories.
