Abstract

Microscopic examination of dystrophic fingernails and toenails for pathogenic fungi can be greatly facilitated by (1) sampling an area of whitish discoloration of the nail plate, (2) employing a Gillette Super Blue Blade to secure a thin slice of friable material within the white spot, and (3) immersing this nail specimen in xylene for instant clearing and reading.
