Abstract

This year's Westminster Medal was awarded to Dr Andrew Gordon for his distinguished work on the Battle of Jutland. In his acceptance speech Dr Gordoh pays tribute to the distinguished naval thinkers and practitioners in the field, while taking a critical look at the peacetime military culture of communications Which had such bearing at Jutland Dr Gordon's book strongly advocates that pre‐sent military practitioners should learn from the past highlighting the importance of product over process Even if the scenario is rather different today, with enormous advances in technology, it is also about ideas, principles and personality management. We include the enthusiastic responses of Vice Admiral J R Brigstocke and Rear Admiral Richard Hill.
