Abstract
The Western Alpine arc is, at the same time, inherited and induced. It is inherited (i) from Variscan and Late Variscan dispositions which were rejuvenated during the Jurassic? and (ii) from the paleogeographical pattern built by the oceanic Liguria-Piemont spreading. It is induced (or more exactly exagerated) by the Insubric impingement and the later Apenninic folding.
