Abstract

This is an important survey problem. In the past, theory alone has been used to justify systems of weighting with a wide variation between possible extreme values—varying inversely as the distance to varying inversely as the square of the distance. A statistical approach is used here to examine practical realities. The result is excellent justification for the simpler rule.
