Abstract

This activity aims to solve problems in developing character education through a waste bank program for students with special needs (ABK). The waste bank program as a form of inconsistency among school citizens in applying environmental care character. Partners in activities are students with special needs (ABK) at SDN Serdang 01, Central Jakarta. Partner problems are: (1) limited knowledge and physical abilities of students in waste management and processing; (2) the school does not yet have a garbage bank management; (3) character education curriculum that has not been integrated with subjects that can be implied through field practice, media-based learning from nature, a healthy environment and habitual waste disposal. The training method was carried out through lecture and demonstration methods accompanied by question and answer to provide opportunities for ABK students to deal with some garbage problems. The solutions in this program are: (1) forming waste bank program management, how to manage waste into economic value; (2) the existence of an environmental wisdom-based curriculum as a change in the behavior of ABK students about environmental hygiene; (3) providing training, mentoring and fostering management of organic and inorganic waste; (4) ABK students aged 12 to 14 years must have knowledge about the benefits and processing of waste with a 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle).
