The volume change on mixing for several liquid systems and the difference in molar volume between the ortho and para modifications of the hydrogenic molecules

Abstract

A method is described for measuring the volume change on mixing of liquids at constant pressure in a direct way. Measurements were performed for the systems O2-N2, O2-A, normal H2-normal D2, normal H2-para H2 and normal D2-ortho D2. Furthermore, the difference in molar volume between nH2 and pH2 and between nD2 and oD2 was determined. The accuracy is of the order of 5 mm3 per mole.
