Abstract

This essay analyses Carmen Martín Gaite's Caperucita en Manhattan (1990) through Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra (1883–5). I examine Caperucita en Manhattan and its concern to articulate the nature of an ethical secular life in modernity, a life which remains fluid and open to others, and the impact of Nietzsche's philosophy upon how life is represented in it.
