Abstract
1. The IR and Raman spectra of (π-naphthalene)chromium tricarbonyl have been obtained and complex vibration frequencies assigned. 2. The vibration spectrum of the π-naphthalene complex ligand has been compared with the spectrum of free naphthalene. It has been noted that coordination of the naphthalene increases the frequencies of certain ring-stretching vibrations, and decreases the frequent cies of certain nonplanar CH bond vibrations, comparison being against the monocyclic ligands where complexing generally decreases the νCC frequencies and increases the ρCH frequencies. 3. In the region of the skeletal vibrations, the spectrum of the (π-naphthalene)chromium tricarbonyl resembles the spectra of other π complexes with Cr(CO)3 fragments.
