Abstract

Donkeys have had a close association with horses for a long time, but there are a number of differences between the two species. In general, donkeys are kept primarily as companion animals or for pleasure activities. They are well suited to therapy and work with special-needs children and adults. In developing countries, donkeys form an important part of the economy. Donkeys deserve high-quality preventive healthcare. They need regular vaccination, dentistry, farriery and worm control, just as much as horses.
