Abstract

The Huron Mountains lie immediately south of Lake Superior in the extreme northwestern part of Marquette County, some forty miles distant from the city of Marquette, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This region represents one of the most extensive and best preserved tracts of primeval forest in the state. A portion of the area is controlled by a private organization, the Hluron Mountain Club, which has owned property here since 1889. Its holdings now include approximately fifteen thousand acres which embrace the principal topographic features of the region.
