Abstract
Observations of a statistically complete sample of radio sources are used to derive limits to the velocity of separation of the components of typical double radio sources. For the most probable rate of luminosity evolution, the components of a typical source are unlikely to be moving away from the parent galaxy with a velocity exceeding 0.08 c.
