Abstract

This paper examines the variation of the primary energy factor and greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions factor of electricity generation in Taiwan from 1982 to 2009. The components of the primary energy factor and emissions factor the electricity generation were analyzed by applying Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) method. Respect to the LMDI analysis of the aggregated primary energy factor of electricity, the research showed that the positive generation mix effect of the electricity generation was the major component of the change ratio of the aggregated primary energy factor among 1982-2009. The pure primary energy coefficient effect of the electricity generation on the change ratio of primary energy factor of was positive too, but the effect was small. Respect to the LMDI analysis of the aggregated emissions factor of electricity, the research showed that fossil fuel generation share effect was the major component of the change ratio of the emission factor among 1982-2009. The change of emission coefficients of the fossil fuel generation also had positive effect on aggregated emissions factor, but the effect was small.
