Abstract The variable stars of the globular cluster NGC 2808 have been studied on 244 plates taken at the Boyden Observatory in South Africa, and at the Las Campanas and Cerro Tololo observatories in Chile between 1935 and 1985. Three new variables have been discovered and classified. Nine stars previously classified as variables were also studied and only two of them were found to be variable. Of the five known variables, two are of the RR Lyrae type, one is a short-period Population II Cepheid, and the two others are red semiregulars. All of the variables have apparent magnitudes appropriate for cluster membership. No double-mode pulsations were detected in the RR Lyrae stars.
