Abstract
The constant coefficient ASE-I and ASC-N methods for constant coefficient diffusion problem are extended to solve the variable coefficient problem, and the variable coefficient ASE-I (Alternating Segment Explicit-Implicit) and ASC-N (Alternating Segment Crank-Nicolson) methods are introduced. Their stability are studied by the energy method and the two methods are proved to be unconditionally stable.
