Abstract

The phenomenon of envy does not lose its topicality in modern scientifi c research. Based on empirical research, the article presents the results of a study of contradictions in the axiological sphere of personality as potential sources of envy. The work is devoted to the study of differences in the value bases of the experience of envy by the type of envy-hostility and envydespondency. It is shown that envy subjects are characterised by a contradiction between the level of normative ideals and the level of individual priorities. Based on the theory of dynamic relationships between values, the results of the study allowed us to highlight the value of the opposition-determining experiences of envy. Central to the envy of the individual and motivating the subject to appropriate behaviour is the opposition of the values of universalism and generosity. The opposition to the values of universalism and stimulation is specifi c for experiencing envy by the type of envy-despondency, while the opposition of the values of tradition and generosity is the envy of the type of envy-dislike.
