Abstract
We surveyed graduates (1969-1994) of a master of science program in clinical laboratory science, focusing on placement, salary, and satisfaction with their education. We mailed 51 surveys and received 42 responses, with 35 (83%) graduates recommending this type of program to other medical technologists. Most respondents have positions in research, academia, or as department heads and supervisors. Several respondents shared their “postgraduation reactions”. We also include a review of the Directory of Graduate Programs for Clinical Laboratory Practitioners, which provides information about graduate program selection criteria and requirements across the United States. We strongly recommend graduate education in clinical laboratory science for those individuals who want greater professional satisfaction, personal fulfillment, and employment opportunities.
