Abstract

The ratios cited above are just what would be expected from the organic character of these various types of wastes. The vegetable wastes, being high in carbonaceous matter, would be expected to show a high oxygen consumed, while the domestic sewage, being somewhat higher in nitrpgenous organic matter and lower in carbonaceous organic matter, would be expected to give a lower oxygen consumed. These two points are brought out by the above ratios. The lack of organic matter in the tube waste is still in accordance with its very high ratio.
