Abstract

A series of 182 patients who presented through an athletes clinic with internal derangements of the knee have been studied prospectively with regard to clinical, arthrographic and arthroscopic findings. The diagnostic inaccuracies of arthography and arthroscopy are detailed. In this group of patients arthroscopy achieved the greatest overall accuracy, and is recommended as the initial investigation. Arthrography is advocated in cases where a suspected tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus has not been revealed by arthroscopy.
